Free online jigsaw puzzles: how to play
Here you can play a free online jigsaw puzzle: pick one of 26 pictures, choose 25 to 300 pieces and drag the pieces onto the table. Pieces that fit click into place by themselves. Your progress is saved automatically, and a new jigsaw of the day is waiting every day.
How to do a jigsaw online
On a phone or tablet, tap a piece and then tap where it should go.
- Choose a picture from the gallery.
- Choose how many pieces you want.
- Drag a piece close to its place and it clicks in by itself.
- Pieces that fit together stay joined and move together.
How many pieces should you choose?
You can pick 25, 49, 100, 144, 225 or 300 pieces. If you are new, start with 25 or 49: cosy and quickly done. At 100 or 144 pieces it gets tricky, and 225 or 300 pieces are for pros and masters. A small screen offers up to 49 pieces, a tablet up to 144 and a computer up to 300. For a bigger challenge, switch on “turned pieces”. Then you have to turn every piece the right way up first.
Tips: edges first, sort by colour
A progress display shows how far you have got. Moritz the cat gives you small tips along the way and cheers when you reach a quarter, halfway and the last stretch.
- “Edge pieces first” gathers the straight sides together.
- “Sort by colour” puts similar pieces side by side.
- “Show picture” shows you the finished image.
- You can zoom in and move the table around. You can also change the table colour.
- A hint puts one piece in the right place for you. It costs 5 coins.
The jigsaw of the day
Every day there is a new picture with 49 pieces. It starts right away. The next one arrives at midnight, your local time.
Make a jigsaw from your own photo
You can also turn a photo from your device into a jigsaw. You choose the cut-out and the number of pieces. Your photo stays on your device. A printed jigsaw from your photo is coming soon.
The pictures
There are 26 pictures in five groups: Moritz & friends, art, nature, animals & ocean and space. They are public-domain paintings and photos from NASA, NPS, NOAA and USFWS, plus our own pictures.

- Can every jigsaw be finished?
- Yes. All pieces belong to the picture you chose, so nothing is missing. If you get stuck, the picture or a hint can help.
- Is my progress saved?
- Yes, automatically. You can carry on later from the jigsaw start screen. This works for the jigsaw of the day too. You can also delete a started puzzle there.
- When does the new jigsaw of the day arrive?
- At midnight, your local time. It always has 49 pieces.
